From a Recent Anti-Aging Conference – Fibromyalgia, Alzheimers and Dementia

omega3.phpMany of the items I have espoused to concerning anti-inflammatory dietary changes for fibromyalgia patients, have come to the forefront when recent research studies confirm the need for these same changes. Fibromyalgia and inflammation go together and now research proves the relationship between an inflammatory diet, Alzheimers and dementia.

I’ve mentioned in many of my blogs the importance of the removal of sugar, gluten, trans-fatty acids and dairy from each individuals diet. Most individuals have been found to have an inflammatory and/or addictive reaction to some of these food products. Often, people do not even realize they have a negative reaction because many of the symptoms can be subtle, such as becoming a little sleepy or bloated or become itchy or breaking out into a sweat.

Here are some key points from the conference:

Research: The worst thing you can do in the morning is have a glass of orange juice. Our DNA works through proteins and proteins are enzymes. The more proteins that attach to sugar causes your vertebral discs to dry out, harden and degenerate causing osteoarthritis, better know as degenerative joint disease. Furthermore, this causes an increase in free radicals which are unpaired electrons that are produced in the body by natural biological processes or introduced from an outside source (as tobacco smoke, toxins, or pollutants). Free radicals can damage cells, proteins, and DNA by altering their chemical structure by 50 times and shorten your telomeres. Telomeres are the tiny units of DNA at the very end of each chromosome, your health and aging markers. Your biological age is measured by telomeres which is directly affected by free radicals. Similarly, drinking a sugar filled soda increases free radicals in your body by 30 times.

Research: The top driver to dementia is an Omega-3 to Omega-6 imbalance. Again, the protein/sugar bond relationship is inflammatory by way of the brain producing PGE-2 (prostaglandins) which is your primary source of inflammation and pain in the body. The perfect ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6 for humans should be 1 to 1, and acceptable is a 4 to 1 ratio. Expect a weak immune system and possible forms of illness at 5 to 1. On a ratio of 15 to 1, expect the body to be open to autoimmune diseases such as heart problems, cancer, diabetes, etc. Due to the poisonous American diet that many consume, today’s average Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio is an unbelievable 25 to 1.

Reasearch: Statins have shown to stimulate atherosclerosis which is another aging factor.

Alzheimers is directly related to the consumption of wheat grains. Book: Wheat Belly Total Health by William David M.D.

Research: Placing your cell phone directly in contact to your ear affects the calcium ion field of the brain (destroys brain cells) leads to dementia.

Research: Eat Wild! Most farmed fish are raised on a diet of corn, soy and grain and contain high levels of inflammation-promoting omega-6 fats and much lower levels of omega-3s than their wild counterparts.

Simple suggestions to the above problems:

  1. Significantly reduce your consumption of sugar, gluten, trans-fatty acids and dairy, especially if you are having a negative physical reaction when you eat any of these foods. If you have a problem understanding what foods you are eating might be causing you health problems, try my detox program that I have introduced before. I have copies in my office I am happy to send to you.
  2. Consider eating more vegetables than fruit in a ratio of 9 to 1.
  3. Keep your cell phone at lease one inch from your ear or place it on speaker.
  4. Exercise, especially walking up hill, will increase the length of your life.
  5. Increase your Omega-3, fish oil by eating more fresh not farmed fish or take Omega-3 supplements. Get at least 3000mg of EPA and 2000mg of DHA. That does not mean one-a-day.
  6. Social interaction and mental exercise between family, friends and other social organizations.
Enjoy a Healthy and Happy Life!
